Last week’s games helped to clear up the Top 25. Ohio State sent a message to the college football world by making then #2 Texas look foolish. Their domination of Texas solidified their ownership of the #1 spot. Notre Dame looked much better last week and was rewarded by getting their old #2 spot back. They buried Penn State and got back on the path towards the championship game. This week there are a great number of games to watch. I thought I would give you a list of games I will be paying attention to. The Top 25 will be shaken after this week. First up on my list is #1 Ohio State at #2 Texas. If you can only watch one game this week, make sure it’s this one. After this week one of these teams will have their championship hopes crushed. I think Ohio State will come out in this one. This week’s AP Top 25 was released today, and there are some surprises. First, the number one team, Ohio State, is still king of the hill. Perhaps because of the excitement of this Saturday, Texas is now ranked #2. For those that don’t know, Ohio State is visiting Texas on Saturday night. It’s going to be a huge game of epic proportions. I’m sure North Texas came to play against the #3 team in the county, but it surely didn’t look that way. Texas forced a steady diet of two touchdowns per quarter down the throats of the Mean Green. Texas rolled 56-7 over the Mean Green. The big question on everyone’s mind was about Colt McCoy. Could he even begin to replace Vince Young? While many college football analysts are quick to say yes, I’d rather say he potentially could fill some of the void. Most analysts were a bit cautious about USC this season. After all, they lost some key players to the NFL. Perhaps Arkansas bought into this and thought that at home they had a good shot at avenging last meeting’s massacre. It’s only week one and USC has proven that they are one school that’s deep in talent. By halftime this game was 16-7 and still within reach for the Razorbacks. However, USC turned on the afterburners in the second half and destroyed Arkansas 50-14. Yes, the Oklahoma Sooners won their game against UAB yesterday, but they certainly didn’t look like the #10 team in the country—or even a top 25 team. Thanks to a 4th quarter shutdown by the Sooners defense, Oklahoma managed to save face in front of their home crowd by beating the UAB Blazers 24-17. The Sooners lost four turnovers, which included two interceptions and two fumbles.
