Georgia Bulldogs PreviewThe Georgia Bulldogs are a team that has a lot to prove this year. After losing a lot of talent to the NFL the past couple years and having the past two seasons being disappointments after having successful runs early on followed by disappointing losses later in the year (largely thanks to a tough SEC schedule), Georgia is a team that wants to prove they can be consistent, establish that they are a legitimate power in the SEC, and hopefully show that they have what it takes to fight and claw their way into a BCS game. In the SEC, earning a BCS bid is one of the hardest things you can do. Only one team, the conference champion, is guaranteed a BCS bid and a second team being invited is not always likely. That fact, combined with how the SEC is such a difficult conference to play in, makes it so that any SEC team must truly be prepared for battles each and every week if they hope to earn that coveted bowl bid. Georgia is a team that, thanks to a tough defense, could possibly once again rise to the top of the SEC East. Returning five starters on defense, with those being star defensive end Quentin Moses, widely regarded as the top defensive end in the nation in 2006, along with the entire linebacker unit, Georgia’s front seven is an extremely talented squad that hopes to be able to keep games low scoring and close to help out their young, unproven offense. In fact, Georgia returns only four starters on offense. Georgia’s offense has been shaky the past couple years in terms of consistency and performance and Georgia must be able to find a way to get their offense going if they plan on surviving the SEC in 2006. The SEC can be a vicious conference and without a strong, balanced offensive attack, Georgia will have little chance of winning even the SEC East. Leave a Reply |
