Oklahoma Bumbles and StumblesYes, the Oklahoma Sooners won their game against UAB yesterday, but they certainly didn’t look like the #10 team in the country—or even a top 25 team. Thanks to a 4th quarter shutdown by the Sooners defense, Oklahoma managed to save face in front of their home crowd by beating the UAB Blazers 24-17. The Sooners lost four turnovers, which included two interceptions and two fumbles. The lone bright spot was Adrian Peterson. He was the big man on campus yesterday. In the 3rd quarter Peterson scored a TD on a 4 yard run. He followed that up later by scoring a TD on a 69 yard pass from QB Paul Thompson. When it was all said and done, Peterson amassed 139 yards and one TD on the ground over 24 carries. His longest run was for 37 yards. He also had 69 yards and one TD receiving. Here’s the thing. Peterson looks to be healthy and he could just be getting started. He’s one to watch this season. Paul Thompson had 227 yards passing for the Sooners. Even though he threw two TD strikes, he did throw two to the other team. The Sooners looked decent in this contest, but really more was expected. The UAB Blazers are a lower quality team and should not have presented such a tough challenge. Were the Sooners looking past UAB? Were they just rusty? Are they really a top 10 team? These are some of the questions that should be answered in the coming couple of weeks. The Sooners play Washington next week. After that it’s off to Oregon to play the Ducks. By then we should have a real taste for this team and Adrian Peterson. Leave a Reply |
