North Texas Not Mean Enough

I’m sure North Texas came to play against the #3 team in the county, but it surely didn’t look that way. Texas forced a steady diet of two touchdowns per quarter down the throats of the Mean Green. Texas rolled 56-7 over the Mean Green. The big question on everyone’s mind was about Colt McCoy. Could he even begin to replace Vince Young? While many college football analysts are quick to say yes, I’d rather say he potentially could fill some of the void.

One minute and eight seconds into the contest McCoy threw his first touchdown. It was a 60 yard pass to Limas Sweed. Later in the quarter—with one-minute left—McCoy struck gold again. This time he ran it in from a yard out. McCoy finished 12 of 19 for 178 yards with three touchdowns. Rather than pat him on the back, I will give him a cautious thumbs up. After all, North Texas Mean Green was 2-9 last season. They aren’t exactly a quality team.

Fear not college football fans. Next week we get to see just how real this Texas Longhorns squad is as they man up against the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes. There will be no questions left after next week’s game. If Colt McCoy has a solid performance and leads his team to victory, he’s definitely ready to replace Vince Young. Ohio State took care of Northern Illinois 35-12 yesterday. The bonus for Texas is they will be hosting the big game. That will help Colt McCoy relax.
