USC Repeats Dominance of ArkansasMost analysts were a bit cautious about USC this season. After all, they lost some key players to the NFL. Perhaps Arkansas bought into this and thought that at home they had a good shot at avenging last meeting’s massacre. It’s only week one and USC has proven that they are one school that’s deep in talent. By halftime this game was 16-7 and still within reach for the Razorbacks. However, USC turned on the afterburners in the second half and destroyed Arkansas 50-14. USC put up 472 total yards of offense. 280 were via the air attack and 192 on the ground. The Razorbacks were able to move the ball as well. They had 287 total yards of offense, but their five turnovers—2 fumbles and 3 interceptions—did them in. Both teams were penalized equally and USC owned a 9 minute advantage in the time of possession. John David Booty had an impressive first game. He was 24 of 35 for 261 yards. He threw three touchdowns and had no interceptions. While his run stats are nonexistent, he did have an 11-yard run. The running and passing game was pretty spread out among the players. One standout was receiver Ryan Powdrell. He caught 4 passes for 72 yards and a TD. His longest catch was for 44 yards. C.J. Gable got 12 carries. He rushed for 51 yards and a TD. His longest run was for 11 yards. Nothing went right for Arkansas, and they looked like the team that went 4-7 last season. It’s back to the drawing board for the Razorbacks. They play Utah State next week. Utah State got destroyed by Wyoming 38-7, so perhaps it’s the break this team needs. As for USC, they get a tougher assignment next week when they host Nebraska. Yesterday, the Cornhuskers beat up on Louisiana Tech 49-10.They will be the first ranked team USC faces this season. Leave a Reply |
